Colorado vs Colorado State Prediction
For this year's Rocky Mountain Showdown, Colorado State and Colorado come into this game with matching 1-1 records. It's more difficult to say definitively where the Rams are as a program after getting throttled by Texas and then winning by 21 over FCS-level Northern Colorado. For the Buffs, it feels much the same as last year: they'll get wins versus lower-level teams and struggle against better competition.
Colorado and Colorado State have struggled to put points on the board through the first two weeks, ranking 104th and 108th, respectively. The Buffs have done better in terms of yardage, averaging 382.0 yards per game (77th) while the Rams are towards the bottom, averaging 309.0 yards per game (109th). Defensively, CSU's points allowed is inflated thanks to the 52-point beatdown from Texas, but they're currently giving up the 14th-most points per game at 34.5. Colorado is averaging 27.0 points per game allowed, ranking as the 34th-most. Yardage-wise, the defenses rank in similar areas with Colorado State and Colorado allowing the 20th and 37th-most yards per game, respectively.
Although the Buffs will head on the road to Fort Collins and have yet to put together a complete game, I don't think the Rams' defense will come up with enough key stops. Travis Hunter puts up his third-straight game with more than 100 receiving yards and picks up chunk yardage one too many times in this one.
My prediction: Colorado wins and covers.
