Drouin In Top 10 Most Valuable NHL Scorers of 2023-2024

Fact Checked by Thomas Leary

While the 2023-24 NHL season didn’t produce another Stanley Cup championship for the Colorado Avalanche, it did produce one of the most efficient seasons on record for one member of the team.

That’s because veteran winger Jonathan Drouin wrapped up the 2023-24 NHL season with the most points per dollar earned, with his 56 points on a salary cap hit of $825,000, making the veteran of 564 league games quite the steal for GM Joe Sakic and company.

For this study, BetColorado.com - home to the best Colorado sportsbooks - utilized CapFriendly to find the top 10 NHL players in cap hit per point scored during the NHL regular season. For the rankings, any players on their entry-level contract were excluded.

Who Are the NHL’s Most Valuable Players?

Of all the players in the 32-team NHL, Drouin finished the season with the best dollar per point total, coming in at $14,732 to beat out Nashville Predators center Thomas Novak, who had 45 points on a salary cap hit of $800,000, working out to $17,777 per point.

Throw in Brandon Hagel of the Tampa Bay Lightning ($20,000 per point), Carolina Hurricanes winger Stefan Noesen ($20,608 per point) and Danton Heinen of the Boston Bruins ($21,527 per point) and you have the full list of the NHL’s most efficient point scorers.

Rounding out the list for the season were Darren Raddysh of the Lightning ($23,106 per point), Dakota Joshua of the Vancouver Canucks ($25,781 per point), Bruins veteran winger James van Riemsdyk ($26,315 per point), Erik Gustafsson of the New York Rangers ($26,612 per point) and Michael Carcone of the Arizona Coyotes ($26,724 per point).

Still, none of those skaters could hold a candle to Drouin this season when it came to dollars per points scored, with the 29-year-old Quebec native punching above his weight class in 2023-24 for the Avs.
