Now that the holidays have come and gone, millions of Americans from sea to shining sea are hellbent on righting the healthcare wrongs that beset them in 2024, with many opting to lay off the sauce for a month to reset their systems.
In states like Colorado, it seems that interest in abstaining from alcohol throughout January is gaining traction, as Centennial State residents posted the ninth highest search interest total of any state in America when it came to topics surrounding the phenomena known as “Dry January.”

Using Google Trends, we conducted a search for states that were interested in “Dry January” between December 26, 2024 – January 2, 2025, and ranked the top 15 states based on search interest scores. We then found the local metro areas most interested in going alcohol-free this month.

On a state-by-state basis, Colorado’s search interest score of 71 points surrounding “Dry January” and related subjects ranked ninth nationally, sandwiched between No. 8 Delaware, which posted a search interest score of 72 points, and Wisconsin, which had a score of 68 points.
Nationally, states like New Hampshire (100 search interest score), Vermont (97 search interest score), Maine (91 search interest score), Rhode Island (86 search interest score) and Massachusetts (82 search interest score) were the leaders in terms of “Dry January” interest, followed by Connecticut (77 search interest score), Wyoming (74 search interest score) and Delaware (72 search interest score) ranked ahead of the Centennial State.
After that, Colorado finished ahead of the likes of Wisconsin, Minnesota (65 search interest score), South Carolina and Pennsylvania (63 search interest score each), Maryland (61 search interest score) and Illinois (59 search interest score).

As far as Colorado cities were concerned, no metro area beat the state capital, with Denver’s perfect score of 100 points finishing well ahead of the next closest city, which was Colorado Springs, with a score of 72 points.
Throw in third place Pueblo, with a search interest score of 69 points, and you have the full picture of Colorado’s search interest in “Dry January” in 2025, with the Mile High City taking home the top spot in the state this year.
