As more is known about the negative consequences that come from long-term drinking, more and more Americans are opting to steer clear of the sauce and engage in sober living instead.
Few places in the country have shown more interest in sober living than the Centennial State, with Colorado scoring among the highest search interest totals when it came to topics surrounding sober living.
Amongst the Millennial and Gen Z generation, there is a growing “sober-curious,” lifestyle movement. Sober-curious is not a full commitment to not drinking alcohol but exploring activities without the influence of alcohol to gauge how the individual feels. This less-restrictive, more explorative, lifestyle eases people into sober-living.
BetColorado.com, home to the best Colorado sportsbooks, wanted to know what states were the most sober-curious in the U.S. We used Google Trends to see what states were searching “mocktails” the most between June 14-21, 2024. We ranked the states based on search interest score, compared to other topics.

Nationally, Colorado’s search interest score of 82 for topics surrounding sober-curious lifestyle topics ranks fifth overall, behind No. 4 Rhode Island (84 search interest score) and ahead of No. 6 Maryland (81 search interest score).
The leaders in sober-curious search interest were Wisconsin, with a perfect score of 100, followed by Vermont (96 search interest score), Connecticut (88 search interest score) and Rhode Island.
Colorado managed to beat out a handful of states, including Maryland, Massachusetts (79 search interest score), New York (75 search interest score), Minnesota (73 search interest score) and Alaska (72 search interest score).
It seems that as more and more people are opting out of vices like drugs and alcohol and embracing the themes of wellness, with Colorado leading the charge towards health in 2024.
