Elias Diaz Trade Rumors: Odds of Rockies Catcher’s Next Team

Fact Checked by Thomas Leary

One of the best offensive catchers in the Majors might be on the move before the July 30 MLB trade deadline, with 33-year-old veteran Elias Díaz of the Colorado Rockies in the midst of his final year with the club before hitting unrestricted free agency this offseason.

Díaz has been a one-man wrecking crew behind the plate for the last-place Rockies across Colorado sports betting, hitting .283 with five homers and a 1.5 WAR in 70 games, posting better figures across the board than his career-to-date averages.

With the Rockies well out of playoff contention and Díaz being a free agent after the season, BetColorado.com broke down some hypothetical odds on which teams could make a deal for the veteran of 698 MLB games behind the dish with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Rockies.

Where Will Díaz Go Next?

The clubhouse leader in the Díaz sweepstakes is the Chicago Cubs, who come in at +450 as the NL Central squad looks to erase an 11-game gap in the standings with 58 games to play in the Windy City.

Other Díaz suitors are much closer to the postseason bubble, including the New York Yankees, who are first in the AL Wild Card chase, and jsut back of the first-place Baltimore Orioles. Throw in the San Diego Padres and Cleveland Guardians at +1000 apiece and Díaz’s former employer at +1250 and you have the full rundown as to which MLB clubs could swoop in and put together a deal for the hard-hitting catcher.

There’s also a chance that the Rockies keep Díaz through the end of the season and let it ride headed into the offseason, with Colorado and the field listed at +150 apiece as the MLB regular season speeds its way towards the trade deadline.
