How Do Sophomore Season Broncos QBs Play? Bo Nix Setting New Standards For Denver Broncos QB History

Fact Checked by Nate Hamilton

On the heels of a successful rookie season where he led the Denver Broncos to the club’s first playoff berth in nearly a decade, it’s worth wondering where Bo Nix goes from here, with the 12th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft having a high ceiling in the year ahead.

Nix’s first season in the Mile High City saw him finish with an approximate value of 12, per Pro-Football-Reference.com, with 29 touchdowns and 3,775 passing yards in 17 games played, going 10-7 as the team’s signal caller this season along the Front Range.

Can Nix Pick Up The Slack?

Dating back to Hall of Famer John Elway’s sophomore season way back in 1984, Denver’s quarterbacks over the last four decades have had their share of success on the fields of the NFL, with the legend out of Stanford posting an approximate value of 10 way back in that 1984 campaign, while his heir apparent (Brian Griese) had an AV of 10 in his first full season as a starter (second overall) in 1999.

Overall, the half-dozen QBs that have suited up for the Broncos since Elway in 1984 that started their NFL careers in Denver posted an average record of 7-7 with 2,865 passing yards, 16 touchdowns and 12 interceptions (with an average completion percentage of 56.8%).

For now, Nix will look to pick up where he left off this fall, with the former Auburn Tigers and Oregon Ducks star quarterback leading the Broncos to a 10-7 record and the club’s first postseason berth since 2015 in 2024.
