Denver Broncos 2024 Win Total: Trends of 5.5 Win Total Teams

Fact Checked by Thomas Leary

Itā€™s fair to say that the last decade of Denver Broncos football has been anything but easy on the eyes, with the franchise in the midst of an eight year playoff drought and coming off seven straight seasons at or below .500.

While Sean Payton was tasked with resurrecting the club when he was hired ahead of the 2023 season, itā€™s safe to say that the Super Bowl winner has done anything but so far, going 8-9 in his first season in Denver and chasing off the QB that his predecessor (Nathaniel Hackett) brought in.

This year, oddsmakers don't love the Broncos playoff chances, as most list the Broncosā€™ preseason win total over/under at 5.5, giving fans little hope that 2024 will be the year that Denver makes its long-awaited return to the sportā€™s postseason.

Utilizing DraftKings Colorado's current win total for the 2024 NFL season, the Broncos were found to be set at 5.5 wins (-135 over). Utilizing SportsReference.com, we found all teams with a 5.5-win total line since the 2010 NFL season and how they performed.

Can Denver Flip 5.5 Win Total Script?

Since 2014, none of the 18 teams in the Broncosā€™ shoes have made it past the Wild Card Round of the postseason, with three teams (the 2011 Cincinnati Bengals, 2012 Indianapolis Colts and 2022 Seattle Seahawks) meeting their gridiron maker there and then.

Of those 18 teams in Denverā€™s shoes, 10 (or 55.6%) wound up winning five games or fewer that season, while the average win count for those teams was 5.8, illustrating the long road ahead of Payton and company in 2024.

That road to redemption begins in earnest on Sept. 8 in Seattle when Paytonā€™s bunch takes on the Seahawks at Lumen Field at 2:05 p.m. Mountain time on CBS, with the Broncosā€™ home opener coming a week later at 2:25 p.m. against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
